The Quarrying of Soapstone

When I first came to the mine in the early 70's, the stone was cut using six foot circular saws. The company has since progressed to using a bandsaw.

These blocks will be cut into sizes that customers order.

In the storeroom the cut blocks of soapstone are stacked and waiting for a sculptor to turn it into his personal work of art.

But as for me, I do not have the equipment that is available at the quarry. So I get to cut my stone with an old fashioned crosscut saw.
